Reflecting Come Father's Day

Dads - As Father’s Day approaches it is the perfect time to reflect on how you are doing so far:

Being there for your children from the very beginning is the greatest job you can have. The satisfaction you get from seeing the daily changes in your kids as they begin on life’s great journey is extremely fulfilling.

So why wouldn’t you want to be there for them?

I don’t think people make a conscious decision not to be there, but life’s challenges and obligations sometimes just get in the way. We lose sight of our priorities and we can’t see the forest for the trees, which is fair enough. I for one have never said life is easy. It is up to us to do the best we can with the situation at hand, and with the resources at our disposal, and, more importantly, to get up again after a setback and keep going.

Frankly, I think you need to make a decision to be there with them. Your kids should be at the centre of your universe. It is not as hard as you think to build your life around that concept. Most people you encounter understand and accept the concept of ‘family first’ even if they themselves don’t practice it. If you keep in mind as you build your career and your social life that these can be complementary to being there for your children, then I assure you, you can achieve it.
